Title of Job: Data Center Project Manager
Location: Any Savvis Location
Job Description: The Data Center Project Manager will be responsible for a wide variety of data center builds in an internal project management role supporting the Director of Data Center Builds in the Savvis Global Data Center Acquisition & Expansion (GDCA&E) team.
Position Objectives and Responsibilities:
Project manage select data center construction projects of the company
Ensure the builds are designed & built according to the data center build scope, timeline & budget
Manage the bidding & selection of the general contractor, MEP firm & third party project manager for each project
Work closely with Procurement during the bid process of projects to ensure procurement policies are properly followed
Hire & manage individual third party contractor project managers to ensure that project timelines & budgets are met and issues are handled on a regular basis
Ensure each project is kicked off properly and regularly scheduled update meetings are held
Act as the escalation point for all data center build issues to ensure timely resolution of such issues
Develop regular status reporting of all projects for the GDCA&E team and Executive team
Work closely with the GDCA&E engineering team members to ensure project design, scope & timelines are being met
Work closely with the GDCA&E financial team member to ensure purchase requisitions, purchase orders, goods receipts, and invoice payments are being properly processed for each job; Also, ensure that all monthly budgets and cash flow projections are tracked & met
Work collaboratively with other Savvis groups such as procurement, finance, real estate, colocation product management & marketing, data center operations and central engineering
Ensure projects are properly closed at the completion of the project
Travel estimated to be 25%
Required skills:
Minimum 7 years experience in Data Center, Hosting or Colocation company
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple project & timelines at once
Demonstrated understanding of data center construction process
Strong MS Excel & Powerpoint skills
Knowledgeable in SAP, MS Project and AutoCAD
Strong analytical & finance skills
Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
Ability to lead large in-person & telephonic conference meetings with diverse group of people
Ability to develop effective collaborative relationships across organizational boundaries both inside & outside Savvis
Able to define and document process flows and resource plans
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education or Equivalent Experience:
BS or equivalent experience in hosting/colocation market
